Prayer
Pray for survivors of Hurricane Sandy
We invite you to pray with World Vision for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Pray for grieving children and families. Ask the God of all comfort to minister to them in their time of deep sorrow. And pray they will receive the physical, emotional, and spiritual help they need to recover.
The storm’s winds, waves, and waters have damaged the shelters, homes, and property of multiple thousands of people. These families face a long road of rebuilding and recovery. Some—in Haiti, New York, and elsewhere—already lacked resources or insurance due to previous disasters and a faltering economy. This latest blow has set them back even further.
Ask the Lord to restore hope to people who have lost everything and that they would put their trust in Him for whom nothing is impossible. Pray they would be encouraged and strengthened for the work ahead by the help provided by World Vision and other humanitarian groups.
Churches and community organizations that serve youth and low-income families have suffered damages and loss and are struggling to recover even as they reach out to provide for needs in their communities.
Pray for the caring and community-minded people who put the needs of others before their own. Ask the Lord to protect them and give them wisdom and strength for the days and weeks ahead.
World Vision and other humanitarian groups have emergency relief staff in the Caribbean and the United States assessing damage and deploying resources in cooperation with others to the worst affected children and families.
Pray that relief staff will work in unity of mind and purpose for the best possible outcomes for those who are suffering loss. Ask that any hindrances to effective work would be removed so more can receive the help they need.
World Vision is a child-focused organization. We know from experience that events like this cause fear and confusion in children. Many times, especially abroad, their educations are disrupted by too much time missed in the classroom.
Pray that children would be free of fear and anxiety. Pray that their educations would be uninterrupted so their hopes and dreams for the future can become a reality.
World Vision’s warehouse with pre-positioned emergency relief supplies in the Bronx, New York, was flooded in the storm surge. Some goods were unfortunately unrecoverable.
